Zachary P Gates
ZACHARY P. GATES began his research journey in the laboratory of Stephen Kent at the University of Chicago (U.S.A.), intrigued by the prospect of using chemical synthesis to study protein structure. Here, he helped to develop mirror-image proteins as tools for structural study, and formed a deep interest in solid phase synthesis, the foundation of chemical protein synthesis. As a postdoc in Brad Pentelute's laboratory at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (U.S.A.), Zak sought to pair the ability of solid phase synthesis to access huge peptide libraries with new approaches to screen them. He is currently a Team Leader in the Disease Intervention Technology Laboratory at the Agency for Science, Technology and Research (Singapore), focused on the development of synthetic libraries as tools for ligand discovery.
